John Schindler lives in Milwaukee, WI, and is a Merit Scholarship Fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy. A student of Alan Chow, he has been playing the piano for eleven years.
Recently John was named a 2017 finalist of the National YoungArts Foundation. Last June, he was awarded Third Prize, the Best Performance of a Duo prize, and the Wisconsin Contestant prize at the 2016 PianoArts North American Competition, where he was the youngest semifinalist. As a result of the competition, he was featured on TMJ4 news’s weekly “Positively Milwaukee” segment. John has also won the Concerto Competition “Theodor Leschetizky,” Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, the NFMC Stillman Kelley Music Competition, and the PianoArts Wisconsin Youth Piano Competition, and has placed third in the national MTNA junior piano competition.
Several highlights of John’s performing experiences have been playing concerti with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in Uihlein Hall, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, Camerata New York in Merkin Hall, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. His performance with the Wisconsin Philharmonic for their annual holiday concert was broadcast on MPTV in December. Besides his performances as a soloist, John is a passionate chamber musician. Last spring he was heard on WFMT’s Introductions as a member of the Akros Piano Trio, formed at the Music Institute of Chicago Academy. John has performed in master classes with Joseph Kalichstein, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Julian Martin, Robert McDonald, Jon Nakamatsu, John O’Conor, and Nelita True.
