Shen Lu’s first piano teacher was his father, Guofu Shen. His further studies with Eryao Lin, Siying Li, and Ying Wu contributed to his winning First Prize in the Hong Kong Open Piano Competition and second prizes in the Jingzhong Competition and the Asia Chopin Piano Competition. He also won Third Prize and Best Chinese Musician Work in the Gulangyu Piano Festival.
Mr. Shen has performed contemporary Chinese works by Shuai Zhang, Peixun Chen, Ping Gao, and the Piano Concerto by Anlun Huang with the Xiamen Orchestra. In more traditional repertoire, Mr.Shen has performed the Piano Concerto No. 1 by both Liszt and Brahms. His performance of the Saint-Saëns Second Piano Concerto with the Central Conservatory of Music Youth Orchestra was broadcast on CCTV. Mr. Shen has performed at the Central Conservatory of Music Hall and China’s National Grand Theater in Beijing. He is also a piano accompanist for the Central Conservatory’s Young Chorus.
He has participated in the Julliard Music School Piano Festival in Hong Kong, the China International Piano Festival in Beijing, and the Texas Piano Festival. He was a prize winner at the 59th Wideman, the 4th Campillos, the 2nd Florida, and the 25th Ferrol International Piano Competitions. He also won semi-final prizes in the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2012 and the Queen Elizabeth International Piano Competition in 2013. Mr. Shen will have a concert tour in the U.S., including one recital at Carnegie Hall.
He has played in master classes with Lee Kum Sing, Arie Vardi, Boris Berman, Thomas Unger, Paul Badura-Skoda, Peter Frankl, Hung-Kuan Chen, Jonathan Biss, and Stephen Kovacevich.
Mr. Shen completed his Master’s degree with Alexander Korsantia at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He is currently studying with Haesun Paik at the Cleveland Institute of Music for his Artist Diploma Degree.
