William Yang was born and grew up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and now lives in Winchester, Massachusetts. With a fast growing repertoire, he has been publicly giving piano performances and winning piano competition prizes since the age of 7.
William is an 8th grader at McCall Middle School in Winchester, Massachusetts, and is also enrolled in the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, where he studies Chamber Music, Piano Duo, Music Theory and Youth Chorale.
William was the featured soloist in NPR’s From the Top show in July 2010. He played Saint- Saëns’ The Carnival of The Animals with the Minnesota Orchestra in March and July, 2010. William was invited to perform Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra during their 2012 Fall Concert Series. He played Chopin’s La ci darem la mano Variations with the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra in February and March, 2012. In 2013 and 2014, William had piano solo recitals at Eastern Illinois University, the Omaha Crescendo Concert, and Illinois Opera House of Sandwich.
William has won prizes at various competitions. He was a semi-finalist at the 2012 Gina Bachauer Junior International Piano Competition. Most recently he won Second Prize at the Midwest International Piano Competition and Festival in June 2014.
The young pianist studies with pianist and Professor Alexander Korsantia from New England Conservatory. His previous teacher was Dr. Paul Wirth. He has also taken lessons from pianists Andre Watts, Hung-Kuan Chen and Hans Boepple. William loves chamber music, swimming and table tennis.
